I moved from New Bedford 7 years ago now after living their 52 years. One of the most wonderful things i miss is the Feast. There just isn't anything like it anywhere else. Every year it got better and better. The people that put all the work into should never be forgotten while we are enjoying our time there. they work very very hard all year to  put this together and even though i am not there to enjoy it, i want to send my thanks out to them for a great job each and every year.  my next vacation "home" will be planned so that i can attend the Feast again. Enjoy everyone and give thanks to those that put it together. Mary

My family is from Madeira Island though I was born in Boston (my mom was also born in Massachusetts but went back to Portugal at around 2 yrs old before moving to the United States with my father at 21yrs of age).  All of my father's family is still in Portugal along with many from my mother's side. My parents and siblings all moved out west to California, etc about 20 or more yrs ago but I am still in the Boston area with my husband.  I used to go to these festivals when I was small and miss going so I think I will go with my husband this year (his first time) which will be about 45 years since I've been to one.  I look forward to mostly seeing dancers from Madeira and linguica and just being around "my people"   Maria :)

Just saw your message Maria and so glad you made it to the festival this year! Last time I made it there I think Avoa Moreira was still alive!  If I was closer, I'd be there in a heartbeat... all the music, dancing, food, wine, visiting the chapel, seeing old acquaintances...always a blast ;)
