World's Largest Portuguese Feast - New Bedford Ma
Molly O’Leary is a homegrown, 20-year-old singer/songwriter who has a very special place in her heart for the city of New Bedford. She started out at the age of 11 as a student of Rebecca Correia, and then continued to find her voice at Dream Out Loud Center for the Arts. She grew up watching her musical heroes - Rebecca, her older brother Tom O’Leary, Art Tebbetts, Butch McCarthy, and Jillian Jenson to name a few – and now she is extremely excited to be sharing the Madeira Feast spotlight with them.
Molly is currently an undergraduate student at Providence College, where she is studying social work and using music to build relationships with people all over the world. The school has provided her with incredible opportunities to share her musical talents with extremely vulnerable populations across the globe, including a service trip last summer to South Africa. She was able to bring over her guitar, musical instruments donated by the Medeiros family, and over $2,700 thanks to the incredible generosity of her friends, family, and community members who attended her 6 benefit shows. She wants to extend special thanks to Double Bar Music Shop for helping her organize that whirlwind of a concert series.
Thanks to Providence College, Molly has also thrown her guitar on her back to play music with community members on two other service trips to Mexico and Guatemala. Through these experiences, Molly has used the universal language of music to communicate and spread love everywhere she goes. Check out the video from her first day on site in South Africa last summer below!
Lastly, Molly wants to give a huge shout out to Ann O’Leary, her mother/best friend/#1 fan who has lived in New Bedford her entire life, worked for the public schools system for over 30 years, and is 100% Madeiran Portuguese! Don’t be fooled by the Irish name, folks, Molly is half Maderian herself!
